This is What Hi-Fi's CD player of the year (05-06) and earned its many other excellent press reviews because it's not only a stunning CD player for the price but also the entry point to our upgradeable Cyrus CD platform. The performance of the award winning CD 6s is assured because it is based on the more advanced CD 8x. The CD 6s is based on, and can be upgraded to, the more advanced CD 8x and CD Xt components, in fact all three players in the range are upgradeable from one to another so your investment enjoys a longer life.
With the format of the new high-end CD8x player established as our benchmark, it was time to transfer key elements of the ‘8' series players into our CD player for the ‘6' series. As a result, the CD6s design takes the fundamentals of the popular CD6 and adds to this key elements of the CD8x power supply. With this foundation to build on, the team revisited the critical sonic tuning of the analogue stage, peaking performance with the CD8x as a reference.
In summary, the CD6s benefits from using the same high specification 24bit differential DAC as the CD8x (although not in a fully balanced topology) and shares much of the CD8x power supply technology (but with a single power transformer, rather than the twin transformer design of the CD8x). Screens 4 3 9 – access your computer remotely settings. The performance of the resulting player has far exceeded our expectations, and is the perfect partner for the highly-rated Cyrus 6vs amplifier. Furthermore, the CD6s owner can optionally return their player to the Cyrus factory for upgrade to full CD8x specification when funds permit.
We announce the end-of-life date for a current stable version at the time a new stable version is released. We maintain old branches for at least two years. For GnuPG 2.2 we consider 2.1.0 as the birth of this new stable branch. For the other packages we don't maintain branches and thus there is no end-of-life; always use the latest version. Whilst the CD6s is a simpler design than the CD8x, it shares many aspects of the CD8x circuit topology. This is particularly evident in the quality of components used in the power supply, DAC and analogue filter stages. This level of component quality is unusual in a CD player in this class and is an essential part of the winning formula necessary to deliver musical and technical performance to the exacting standards demanded by the Cyrus team.
Clock stability is a key element in the signal processing chain in a player of this standard. The digital engineering of the CD6s therefore includes a remote re-clocking circuit located at the DAC threshold to maximise jitter rejection.
The power supply circuitry of the CD6s is driven from a high-grade toroidal transformer with two separate secondary windings. With this configuration it is possible to provide completely isolated power supplies for the differing power requirements of the digital and analogue sections of the player. 8 stages of power regulation provide further stage isolation and the best possible environment for the sensitive analogue stages to work in.
Cyrus products have always delivered sonic excellence hand-in-hand with state-of-the-art technical performance. The CD6s is no exception and Cyrus are justifiably proud of the measured performance of the CD6s. With ruler-flat linearity performance, exceptionally low background noise and superb jitter rejection the CD6s will technically out-perform most players in it's class.
In true Cyrus tradition, the CD6s has a clearly defined upgrade path. The CD6s owner can benefit from the Cyrus upgrade program by returning the player for a factory upgrade to full CD8x specification. This includes an additional power transformer and internal power supply and DAC upgrades. Externally, PSX-R connection and a co-axial digital output are added. The front fascia is also changed with a CD8x insignia. The PSX-R connection of the CD8x makes a further optional performance upgrade possible.
The unique MC-Bus connectivity of the CD6s is in keeping with the total system approach of the Cyrus range of products. This facility enhances ergonomic operation of the unit in a system context. Total automation of the test, alignment and calibration of the CD6s is facilitated via the MC-Bus during its manufacturing process, eliminating potential human error. The quality lightweight die-cast enclosure of the CD6s has a myriad of advantages both electrically and mechanically. The non-resonant nature of the alloy minimises microphonic effects, while its non-ferrous composition provides an effective shield from external electro-magnetic disturbances. This also eliminates coupling of the power transformer stray magnetic fields to the sensitive audio circuitry.
The CD6s also features the Cyrus dual layer baseplate which exhibits both the sonic benefits of our non-metallic base and the electrical shielding properties of a metal component. The silver/copper outer skin of this base closes off the sixth side of the chassis electrically and creates an electrical ‘Faraday cage' to protect the sensitive electronics within.
